The Monthly FinOps Review Cadence

A mature FinOps practice runs on a regular cadence of review and improvement. Monthly reviews surface cost trends, anomalies, and optimization opportunities. Quarterly reviews assess KPI trends, evaluate forecast accuracy, and adjust commitment coverage. Annual reviews set optimization targets and budget frameworks for the next year. The exam tests whether you can prescribe the right review frequency for the organizational scenario.

Review Cadence Framework

  • Weekly: anomaly review, new optimization recommendations review, tagging compliance check.
  • Monthly: cost trend analysis, budget variance review, team-level showback/chargeback reports, optimization backlog update.
  • Quarterly: forecast accuracy review, commitment coverage assessment, KPI trend analysis, maturity advancement evaluation.
  • Annually: cloud strategy alignment, budget framework, contract and enterprise agreement review.
FinOpsDecode Rule

FinOps is not a project with an end date. It is an operating model with a monthly heartbeat.
